Major General Robert A. Sullivan

Major General Robert A. Sullivan, who authored the Introduction to Up-Close & Personal, In-Country, Chieu Hoi, Vietnam, 1969-1970, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019.  He was 90 years old.  On behalf of all B Company “Bushwhackers” of the 720th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade – We Salute You, Sir! 

Major General Sullivan, a native of Sturgis, South Dakota was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry, in 1952 through the University Of South Dakota’s ROTC program. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War where he commanded the 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division.

His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit (with three oak leaf clusters), Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star with “V” device and two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with numeral “14,” Gallantry Cross with palm, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and Senior Parachutist Badge.
